5 Bean Soup

Ingredients

240 gr pinto beans
260 gr navy beans
200 gr black-eyed peas
2,400 ml water
240 ml chicken bouillon
120 gr onion
300 gr tomatoes
2 gr thyme
1 gr pepper
260 gr beans
260 gr northern beans
2 bay leaves
850 gr meaty ham bones
325 gr smoked ham
8 gr chili powder
1 ml worcestershire sauce
1 carrot

Instructions

Place beans into 4 litre kettle, cover with 5 cm of water and allow to soak overnight. Drain water then add ham bones, water and bay leaves. Simmer covered for 2 hours. Remove ham bones and return any meat to kettle. Add bouillon, onions, chili and garlic powder, thyme, pepper, tomatoes, carrot and worcestershire sauce. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Add water as needed. Serve with hot cornbread.
