Barbecued Beans

Ingredients

500 gr kidney beans
2 onions
2 garlic
2 bacon drippings
120 ml ketchup
120 ml chili sauce
120 ml cider vinegar
110 gr firmly packed brown sugar
2 gr powdered mustard
1 gr chili powder
6 gr salt
1 gr pepper
1,200 ml water

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drain beans, place in an ungreased 3 litre bean pot or casserole, and mix in all remaining ingredients. Cover tightly (use a double thickness of foil if casserole has no lid) and bake 5 to 6 hours, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender and sauce thick. If mixture gets too dry before beans are done, stir in a little warm water.
