Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tarter, soda and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like course crumbs. Fashion a well in the middle and add milk quickly, then stir just till the dough clings together. Knead gently on lightly floured surface for 10 to dozen strokes. Roll or pat out to 1 cm thick. Cut with floured cutter or tumbler. Bake in moderately hot oven with two third coals on top and one third on bottom for 10 to dozen minutes or till golden brown.
