Thoroughly cream shortening, sugars and vanilla. Beat in egg, then 1 Tb water. Sift together flour, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture, blending well. Stir in the rolled oats, chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet about 5 cm apart. Bake at 190ÂșC or 10 to dozen minutes. Cool slightly before removing from pan.
