Cream sugar and shortening together until creamy. Add vanilla and eggs, mixing well. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, salt and baking powder. Add wet ingredients, mixing well. Place teaspoonfuls of dough on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 180ÂșC . for 10 dozen minutes or until just barely browned. Let cool on cookie sheet about 1 minute and then dip top of each cookie into a bowl of sugar, coating the entire top. Place on cooling rack to cool completely. Recipe from Ruth Burlingame ----
