1 1/2 c sifted cake flour 1 c ghirardelli sweet 3/4 c sugar 1 1/2 ts baking soda 1/4 ts cream of tartar 1/2 ts salt 5/8 c shortening 1 c buttermilk 2 eggs 1 ts vanilla 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
two 8 by 1 1/2" round cake pans with waxed paper. Spread batter into pans. Bake at 350-F for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool on racks 10 minutes; remove layers from pans. After completely cooled, frost with Empress Frosting*. *separate recipe
