Ingredients
- 3 tablespooons walnuts (finely chopped)
- 2 eggs
- 400 ml boiling water
- 220 gr all purpose flour
- 150 gr unsweetened dates (chopped)
- 110 gr margarine
- 100 gr sugar
- 45 gr mini semisweet chocolate chips
- 7 gr baking soda
- 5 gr baking powder
- 2 gr baking soda
- 1 gr salt
Combine dates and 1.5 teaspoons soda in small pan. Pour boiling water over d ates; stir to blend. Let stand 30 minutes. Cream margarine and sugar. Add eg gs and beat well. Combine flour, soda, baking powder, and salt. Alternately a dd dry ingredients and date mixture to creamed mixture beginning and ending wit h dry ingredients. Batter will be thin. Pour into oiled and floured 9 x 13-in ch baking pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and walnuts over batter. Bake at 180ºC or 25 to 30 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool. Cut into 28 piec es (4 across and 7 down).
