Ingredients
- 1 1/2 sour dough starter
- 1 dry baking mix
- 950 ml water
- 200 gr sugar
- 130 gr apples (dried)
- 110 gr brown sugar
- 55 gr butter
- 3 gr cinnamon
- 1 gr nutmeg
---------------------------DRY BAKING MIX RECIPE--------------------------2 c Flour; all purpose 1 tb Sugar 1 tb Baking powder 1 ts Salt one third c Lard; or shortening To prepare Dry Baking Mix: Stir or mix dry ingredients. Cut in lard till mixture resembles fine meal. To prepare cake: Cook dried apples in 4 cups water until tender. Drain and save juice. Measure 2 cups juice, adding water if needed. Mix quarter cup sugar with dry baking mix; stir in sourdough started to moisten flour. Turn out onto a floured surface, knead lightly; pat or roll to a dozen x 46 cm rectangle. Sprinkle with apples. Roll, starting at short end; cut into dozen slices. Put remaining sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter and the 2 cups of apple liquid into a large deep skillet. Bring to a boil. Gently lower apple slices into hot syrup. Bake in a 375' F. oven for 35-40 minutes. ----
