Ingredients
- 3 onions (chopped)
- 2 peppers (red chopped)
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 3/4 extra-chunky salsa picante
- 2 pounds beef (lean ground)
- 2 1/4 cups kidney beans (red)
- 1 5/8 pints italian-style tomatoes (plum)
- 1/4 cup pure olive oil
- 2 tablespoons presidents choice (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano (dried)
Brown beef and drain excess fat. In a large stew pot, heat olive oil and saute onions and red peppers with garlic. Add plum tomatoes with their juice and brea k up. Add chili powder, oregano, bay leaves, salsa and meat. Cook at a low simm er for 1 hour. Fifteen minutes before serving, remove bay leaves and add kidney beans and sauce and heat through.
