- 1 egg
- 220 gr packed brown sugar
- 95 gr all purpose flour
- 75 gr dates (chopped)
- 60 gr walnuts (chopped)
- 50 gr shortening
- 5 gr baking powder
- 2 gr vanilla
- 1 gr salt
*if using self-rising flour Omit baking powder and salt. Recipe by: Betty Crocker's Cookbook Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease square pan, 8 X 8 X 5 cm. Heat shortening in 1- 0.5-quart saucepan over low heat until melted; remove from heat. Mix in brown sugar, vanilla and egg. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in pan. Bake 25 minutes. Cut into 5 cm squares while warm. 16 BROWNIES; 145 CALORIES PER BROWNIE. ----
