Ingredients
- 9 round cakepan
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 eggs
- 2 recipe by southern living cream shortening
- 2 layers
- 1/2 to make (horizontally)
- 2 1/2 c milk
- 1 1/8 c sugar
- 1 c sifted cake flour
- 3/8 c shortening
- 1/4 c cornstarch
- 1 1/2 ts vanilla extract
- 1 ts baking powder
- 1/2 ts butter flavoring
- 1/4 ts salt
- 1 pn salt
CREAM FILLING: Combine first 3 ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Add milk and egg yolks; stir with a wire whisk until blended. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 1 minute); remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. See Part 2. ----
