Ingredients
- 4 onions
- 4 potatoes
- 2 garlic (cloves)
- 2 tomatoes
- 1,900 ml water
- 1,400 gr beef chuck (lean)
- 110 gr shortening
- 24 gr paprika
- 6 gr caraway seeds
- 6 gr salt
- 2 gr lemon peel (minced)
- 1 gr marjoram (dried)
- 1 gr pepper
Cut chuck into 3 cm cubes. Saute onions and garlic in heated shortening or oil in a large kettle until tender. Stir in paprika; cook 1 minute. Wipe beef cubes until dry. Brown cubes, several at a time, on all sides. Add tomatoes, caraway seeds, marjoram, lemon peel, water, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and cook slowly, covered, 45 minutes. Add potatoes and continue to cook about 20 minutes longer, until potatoes are tender. Serves 10.
